January 29, 2013 GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Cadet Staff Sgt. (C/SSG) Alexei S. Joya of Cumming, a sophomore at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, took top honors at the Spaulding County High School Invitational for physical fitness.
Joya is a member of the Raider team at Riverside. Members display teamwork, physical fitness and discipline as they compete against teams from other schools in obstacle courses, one rope bridge-building competitions, three- to five-mile team runs and physical fitness tests.
Joya competed with 660 other cadets to earn the gold medal for physical fitness. The physical fitness test is two minutes of pushups, two minutes of sit-ups and a two-mile run.
In addition to Joya's medal, the Raiders brought home five trophies.
Joya is also a member of the Riverside band and also competes on the cross country, track and wrestling teams.
