A healing Christmas gift: Mount Pisgah UMC reaches out to people of Sandy Hook
Congregation spontaneously donates $40K for families

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church shared with the world in an outpouring of grief to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that claimed 27 lives Friday, Dec. 14 in Newtown, Conn.
They came to their Sunday worship a few days later asking what they could do. Their heartfelt love for a community that experienced such a devastating loss compelled the congregation to write more than 800 prayer cards and collect close to $40,000 for those in need.
"This Sunday worship was one of the most sacred and moving moments I have ever experienced," said Senior Pastor Steve Wood. "I am very proud of Mount Pisgah and very proud to be their pastor."
The cards and the entire amount given will be sent to the Newtown United Methodist Church. When Barbara Carlson, Newtown UMC's administrative assistant to the pastors, heard in a phone call what was collected to help their church serve the people in Newtown during this devastating time, she was overwhelmed and in tears.
Mount Pisgah church members say they will continue to pray that light overcomes darkness, that grace is bigger than pain, that generosity conquers injustice and that God's love and grace in Christ would bring hope and healing to the families and community of Sandy Hook.
