December 20, 2012
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – A local group of eighth-grade boys from North Point Community Church adopted a Fort Payne, Ala. soup kitchen, Bread of Life Ministry, last year.

The boys and their families have had coat and shoe drives, and provided meals and groceries to the local community last Thanksgiving and Easter. This Thanksgiving, the boys and their small group leaders Jim Lewis, Kyle Sudu and Cole Christiansen wanted to do more. The transit students and parents raised $9,628.33 to fund this mission opportunity by sending out letters to friends, going door to door asking for donations or making donations themselves. All of the donations went to buy the food for the bags and for the lunch.

Their ambitious goal was to feed 400 people. Instead, they fed over 650 residents Pasta Bolognese with garlic bread and wonderful desserts donated by the people in Fort Payne.

The lunch could not have been possible without the generous donation from Carla's Pasta. They also gave out 280 Blessings in a Bag with each bag containing enough food to feed a family of eight and a gift card for a turkey. This was all accomplished by 47 NPCC students and adults who served Saturday, as well as 25 volunteers from a Fort Payne business, Heritage Wire Harness, who served along with them. The boys took the current series at North Point Community Church to heart, to be rich in good deeds to others, and made this Thanksgiving a memorable one for all involved.
