ROSWELL, Ga. – Two middle school robotics teams from Fellowship Christian School reached the ultimate in championship competition when they competed at the VEX World Championships in Anaheim, California, April 23-26.
Fellowship's eighth-grade team finished 29th in a field of 76 teams, while the seventh-grade team posted a 49th place finish in their division.
"To finish in the middle of the pack is a great accomplishment considering the level of competition and the quality of the robots at the world championships. This means our two teams were able to successfully compete with the top 150 middle school robots in the world," said FCS faculty member and Robotics Club sponsor Tammy Williamson. "It was intensely competitive."
Fellowship's teams accounted for two of the five teams that represented Georgia. In three short years, the robotics program at Fellowship has had at least one team to qualify for the VEX World Championships each year.
At Fellowship, robotics teaches students more than just how to build a robot; it equips them with life skills that will improve their interpersonal skills and prepare them for a very fast-paced and changing electronic world. As a STEM-based program (science, technology, engineering and math), robotics is 100 percent hands-on and introduces students to the field of robotics and supporting technologies. The VEX Robotics Competition is the world's fastest growing competitive robotics program for elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and colleges around the world, with more than 9,000 teams from 26 countries participating.
