Milton cross country places first, second in season opener

MILTON, Ga. — The Milton High School cross country teams traveled to the Pickens County Preview Cross Country Invitational Aug. 24 and came away with two team victories and two runner-ups to set the tone for their season.

Senior co-captain Katie Robinson was the final scorer to contribute to the varsity girls' first-place team victory of 73 points over 18 schools. The Milton lead, junior Juanita Pardo, finished sixth with the all-time best time of 20:26.

Boys' junior varsity earned their 34-point first place through the accomplishments of freshmen Michael McCarthy's third place (19:15) and Valera Stettner's fifth place (19:23), as well as senior Brendan Kemple's ninth place (19:36) and junior Connor Greisinger's 11th place time of 19:37.

Junior varsity girls' second place was won by junior Meagan Thistleton's first place (22:26), senior Kim Toscano's sixth place (23:41) and junior Michelle Pick's ninth place (24:12). Addie Luxton, senior co-captain, also helped pace the Lady Eagles to the runner-up spot with her 13th place time of 24:33. The varsity boys' 80-point second place was garnered by the collective efforts of sophomores Clay Marshall (third place at 17:10), Jack Bluth (13th at 17:43) and Matt McGorrey (19th at 17:57). The final scorer was sophomore Connor Cole (29th at 18:14), and other contributions were made by John Fravel, who placed 34th with a time of 18:26, and Jacques DuPlessis' 39th place at 18:31.
