Fulton School System wins 2013 Magna Award for outstanding programs

May 21, 2013
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – The Fulton County School System was one of only 15 school districts across the country to be named a first place winner in the Magna Awards program sponsored by the National School Boards Association's (NSBA) American School Board Journal (ASBJ).

The Magna Awards began in 1995 as a way to recognize school boards that take "bold and innovative steps" to improve their educational programs, according to the organization's website. An independent panel of school board members, administrators and other educators selected the winners from nearly 300 submissions this year.

Fulton Schools was the only system in Georgia to receive a Magna Award this year. Other first place winners in the 20,000-plus enrollment category include Alamance-Burlington School System, Burlington, N.C., Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Schools and McAllen (Texas) Independent School District.

The winning school systems will be recognized during the NSBA's annual conference this month in San Diego.
