MILTON, Ga. – Getting picked up from school is the norm these days. However for Birmingham Falls students Mack and Meribelle Halsema, May 15 turned out to have a special surprise.
The students were picked up in a city of Milton fire engine.
Their mother, Leigh, placed a bid during the silent auction at the Denim and Diamonds benefit event last month to have the fire department pick up her kids at school and drive them home. She won the auction item and joined the firefighters outside the school at dismissal time.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Leigh said. "It's a 6-year-old boy's dream come true."
The Denim and Diamonds event raised money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
