May 01, 2013FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Two groups of students at Vickery Creek Elementary took first place in the region for the Georgia Stock Market Game.
The group that won the region during the fall competition also placed first in the state at the elementary level.
The SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an online portfolio.
Starting with a virtual cash account of $100,000, students strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation.
Winning teams are those who increase their portfolios by the greatest return on their investment.
Rachel Hale, Rachel Murray, Marissa Ilardi and Abby Huggins won the regional Stock Market Game in December.
During the 10-week fall game, they increased their portfolio to $133,282. They were also the No. 1 elementary school team in the state, and they were 12th overall out of 4,000 teams statewide.
Siva Appana, Emily Bloomquist, Anna Gizinski and John Austin Branham teamed up for the Stock Market Game in the spring semester.
They increased their portfolio to $117,723 and were the No. 2 elementary school team in the state. The students will attend the 33rd annual Georgia Stock Market Game Awards luncheon at the Georgia Freight Depot on May 7.
