MILTON, Ga. — A book drive at Cambridge High School has exceeded its initial goal.

Held by the school's National English Honor Society (NEHS), the club collected children's and young adult books for their "Spring into Seuss" book drive. The club's goal was to gather close to 1,000 books and by the end of the month, NEHS reached 2,020.

Shelby Jones' sixth-period class had the most donations with about 750 books. The students celebrated with an in-class party with junk food and baked goods. Students who donated books were given extra credit in their English classes.

The book drive took place throughout March, the birth month of renowned children's picture-book author Dr. Theodore Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss.

To prepare for this fundraiser, the NEHS posted flyers and set up donation boxes in the school's English classrooms. All of the books collected will be sorted by age group, packed and transported to elementary and middle schools as well as public libraries in the metro Atlanta area.

"I am thrilled that so many teachers and students contributed to this idea so generously," said Emme Raus, president and founder of the Cambridge chapter of National English Honor Society. "This club has definitely stepped up to the plate for its first year at Cambridge."
