Local varsity news for spring 2013

University of Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – Mary Glenn Mashburn, daughter of Glenn and Norma Mashburn of Johns Creek, was recently installed as the new chapter president of Pi Beta Phi sorority. A junior at the University of Georgia pursuing a double major in journalism and risk management and insurance (RMI), Mashburn previously served as the vice president of administration. As a frequent member of the Dean’s List, she was also inducted into the Greek Honor Society, Order of Omega. As part of Pi Beta Phi’s literacy program, Mashburn volunteers at Alps Road Elementary School in Athens. She was a distinguished graduate of Northview High School in 2010.

 

University of Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. – Caroline Mashburn, daughter of Glenn and Norma Mashburn of Johns Creek, was recently named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at the University of Mississippi. In addition to her academics, Mashburn is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a member of the Ole Miss women’s lacrosse team. Mashburn is a 2012 distinguished graduate of Northview High School.

Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Bradley Benjamin Mostowy, a student at Hampden-Sydney College, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Mostowy is a graduate of Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, N.Y. and is the son of Lynn M. Lopiano of Alpharetta and Benjamin Mostowy Jr. of Limerick, Pa. To earn this distinction, students must achieve at least a 3.3 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Hamilton College

CLINTON, N.Y. – Jacob L. Wagner, son of George and Heather Wagner of Alpharetta, has been named to the Dean’s List at Hamilton College for the 2012 fall semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above. Wagner, a sophomore, is a graduate of Milton High School.

Furman University

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The following Furman University students earned Dean’s List honors for the 2012 fall semester. Furman’s Dean’s List is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 system.

Jordan Delk of Alpharetta, Laura Douglas of Alpharetta, David Kaszycki of Alpharetta, Brittany Mathews of Alpharetta, John McDonough of Alpharetta, Katharine Pierson of Alpharetta and Kelly Dickson of Johns Creek.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Madison Brittney Steh of Alpharetta earned Dean’s Honor Roll status for the fall 2012 semester at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Dean’s Honor Roll students completed 12 semester hours of undergraduate work with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher with no grade lower than a “C.”

Piedmont College

DEMOREST, Ga. – The following students have been awarded academic honors for the recently completed fall semester at Piedmont College.

Students named as Dean’s Scholars for the semester have earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average, and students named to the Dean’s List have earned a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99.

West Virginia Wesleyan College

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – Cassandra Della Fortuna of Roswell has been named to the 2012 fall semester Dean’s List at West Virginia Wesleyan. Wesleyan’s Dean’s List requires students to earn a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 in 12 or more semester hours.

Berry College

ROME, Ga. – The following local students have been named to the fall 2012 Dean’s List at Berry College. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must carry a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Macalester College

ST. PAUL, Minn.  — Chloe Chon, the daughter of Eloise and Young Chon of Johns Creek, has been named to the Dean’s List of Macalester College for academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2012-13 school year. A graduate of Northview High School, Chon was a senior at Macalester last fall.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must have been registered as a full-time, degree-seeking student and may not have been on a study away program. Furthermore, a student must have achieved a semester grade point average of at least 3.75.

Fort Hayes State University

HAYS, Kan. – Steven Pamplin of Cumming, a general studies major, has been named to Fort Hays State University’s Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall 2012 semester. The roll includes only full-time (12 credit hours or more) undergraduate students who have at least a 3.60 grade point average for the semester.

Jacksonville State University

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Ryan Campbell of Forsyth County and Hannah Moses of Johns Creek each earned Dean’s List honors for the 2012 fall semester at Jacksonville State University. To be eligible for Dean’s List, students must maintain a semester grade point averages ranging from 3.50 to 3.99.

Coastal Carolina University

CONWAY, S.C. – Steven A. Ross, a management major from Alpharetta, was among approximately 1,800 students from Coastal Carolina University who made the fall 2012 Dean’s List. To qualify for the Dean’s List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average.

Armstrong Atlantic State University

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The following students were named to the fall 2012 Dean’s List at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah:

Samantha Brown of Cumming; Kelcy Connolly of Duluth; Emily Granath of Alpharetta; Justin Kriske of Roswell; Alyssa Plemmons of Cumming; Jessica Schlender of Alpharetta; Hayley Thacher of Alpharetta; Esther Tweneboah of Alpharetta and Kristy Yun of Duluth.

 

Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Rev. Augustine Kelly, dean of Saint Anselm College, announced that Tyler J. Savage, a business major, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2012 semester. Savage, a resident of Alpharetta, is a member of the class of 2013.

Piedmont College

DEMOREST, Ga. – At its recent December commencement ceremony, Piedmont College in Demorest awarded degrees to 400 students. Among the graduates were the following area residents:

Stephanie Anne Dibert of Cumming earned an education specialist degree.

Jennie L. Lane of Roswell earned a master’s degree in early childhood education.

William Robbins Ragsdale of Cumming earned an education specialist degree.

Breanna M. Thomas of Cumming earned a master’s degree in middle grades education.

Nivinda S. Wheeler of Gainesville earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

In addition to its recent graduates, Piedmont College also recognized Colton J. Bryant of Alpharetta, who was named as a Dean’s Scholar for achievements during the recent fall semester. Dean’s Scholar students earned a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.

Savannah College of Art and Design

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The following local residents recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Megan Boyd of Alpharetta and Jeffrey Elmore of Roswell each earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
