February 13, 2013 ROSWELL, Ga. – River Eves Elementary students participated in the Fulton County competition of the 12th annual Georgia Educational Technology Fair (GAETF) on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Riverwood International Charter School in Sandy Springs.
Four students placed at the county competition. Third-grade student Holden Rohrer earned a first place for his submission in project programming and will advance to the state competition March 9, in Macon. Rohrer created a code that allows a user to determine composite and prime numbers with a visually friendly interface.
Other River Eves' students who placed at the county competition included fifth-grade student Dylan Fawley, who earned second place for his digital photography submission incorporating the Droste effect into a photograph where the picture repeats within itself; Alex Hayes, a fifth-grade student who earned third place for his Internet application project – a website he created where students can share their literary works; and fifth-grader Molly Hyser, who earned second place for her computer case modification project. Hyser modified an iPad to look like a mini Pac-Man game.
"I am incredibly proud of our students," said Peggy Britt, River Eves Technology Fair Committee chair. "Seeing their ideas come to life is a real thrill and we are so pleased to be a part of the competition again this year."
The GAETF was founded by Lou Dewberry, who also directed the tech fair from its inception. Dewberry passed away in 2007, but the Lou Dewberry Scholarship Fund was established in her honor. View images.
