ROSWELL, Ga. – Second-graders of Northwood Elementary School were visited Jan. 10 by an owl, opossum and snake. Nikki Murphy of the Chattahoochee Nature Center brought the animals to help the students study Georgia animals and their habitats.
The owl, which is missing an eye, was brought to the nature center by a farmer in 1991. It has lived at the nature center and made school appearances for more than 20 years. Students examined the skeletal remains of an opossum's jaw to see its sharp teeth and were able to feel an owl's talon and wing feathers.
