February 05, 2013 CUMMING, Ga. — Mock court is in session at the courthouse this week.
Forsyth County is hosting its third regional mock trial competition Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9. In the competition, students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses. Professional attorneys and judges serve as the presiding judges and evaluators.
About 120 area high school students will be competing and more than 60 lawyers will be volunteering as evaluators during the two-day event, held at the Forsyth County Courthouse, Forsyth County Administration Building and Cumming City Hall. The winner will go on to compete at the state level.
Schools participating are: Forsyth Central High School, South Forsyth High School, West Forsyth High School, Lambert High School, Pinecrest Academy, Cambridge High School, Lanier High School and Christian Home Educators Encouragement.
Round 1 of the competition is Friday, Feb. 8. Registration is from 5 – 5:30 p.m., and orientation for round 1 is from 5:30 – 6 p.m. Round 1 will begin at 6 p.m.
Round 2 of the competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 9. Orientation for round 2 is from 8:30 – 9 a.m. Round 2 will begin at 9 a.m.
The final round, which decides the winner and participant at the state level, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
