January 22, 2013 CUMMING, Ga. — A Forsyth County art teacher's creativity in the classroom has paid off with a national award.
Stephanie Pickens, an art and photography teacher at West Forsyth High School, is the 2013 recipient of the Carrie Nordlund pre-K-12 Feminist Pedagogy Award.
This award is given to someone who best exhibits a special effort to incorporate and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive, fair and equitable feminist teaching of art, according to the National Art Educator Association website.
"It's an honor to have teachers on the staff such as Stephanie Pickens," West Forsyth High School Principal Betty Pope said. "She continually encourages her students to use their artistic talents for the betterment of our school and community."
Pickens will be recognized at the National Art Educator Association Annual Conference this March. For more information, visit www.arteducators.org/news/convention-13.
