ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Tutor Shop, owned by Terri Eisenberg and George Dempsey, recently received approval from the Fulton County Board of Education to offer a unique after school program. What makes the Tutor Shop after school program different from others is a desire to help children succeed in school while making life easier for their parents. Unlike other programs whose main function is basically childcare, the Tutor Shop's program will include services no other after school program offers, including working with children to get their homework and projects completed, preparing for upcoming tests and quizzes, supporting the child's remedial and enrichment needs and weekly communication with the parents about their children's progress. To accomplish all these things, The Tutor Shop employs degreed, highly skilled teachers who specialize in math, science, social studies, language arts and technology to make sure the students get all the help they need.

"The program runs Monday through Friday, from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. and will include snacks and physical activity," said Crabapple Crossing Elementary School Principal George Freiberger. "We've been looking for a program with this level of educational depth for our students for some time now, and I'm very excited to have the Tutor Shop after school program at our school."

The pilot program kicked off at Crabapple Crossing Elementary School, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, on Jan. 7, with plans to start up in other schools throughout Fulton County beginning the next school year. At a competitive price with other after school programs, many parents signed up for the Tutor Shop's after school program as soon as it was announced. Terri Eisenberg, co-owner and teacher for over 20 years, understands the demand.

"We've been there, so we get it," she said. "We realize that the last thing parents want to do after working all day is to tackle their children's homework and school projects, so we've built this program around the needs of the children, their parents and their teachers. We want to pull families away from the homework table and bring them back to the dinner table."

George Dempsey, the other owner of the Tutor Shop and a 20-year school administrator veteran agrees. "We're very excited to introduce this unique after school program to Fulton County Schools. We will bring our passion for education every afternoon as we seek to meet the needs of students and their family," he said. "It's a win-win for all."
