January 15, 2013CUMMING, Ga. — A charity event for the Ronald McDonald House Charities was held Jan. 5 at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College. The event was thought up by South Forsyth High School junior Ashita Sehgal.
Sehgal said she went to a summer camp for the foundation and was inspired to raise money to help out even more. With the assistance of her mom, Madhu Sehgal, and her mother's business partner, Pooja Awasthi, they set up the lavish event.
Their goal was about $500, but after expenses, they raised about $1,000.
Apart from raising money for the charity, the event also helped showcase local singing, musical and dancing talents.
Money was raised through the $10 entrance fee and online donations. A silent auction was also held at the event. About 125 guests attended.
"It was a very successful event," Madhu Sehgal said.
