December 26, 2012 CUMMING, Ga. —The Goddard School, 5416 Bethelview Road, annual "Giving Tree" event provided three families with Christmas gifts this year.
"The level of generosity displayed was overwhelming," said David Ewell, business manager of the Goddard School. "A number of families brought in as many as eight to 10 gifts including bicycles, scooters, toys, clothes and much more," he said.
Courtney Banister, the school's director, worked with local charities to gather wish lists for the families. She then hung individual gift tags on a Christmas tree in front of the school. Students and families took tags from the tree and returned with gifts.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19, local charities working with the families came to pick up several truckloads of presents.
"The 'Giving Tree' presents such a great teaching opportunity for the students, so they can learn the value of giving to those less fortunate, and see what a blessing it is to give, not just receive," said the school's owner, Shawn King.
