ALPHARETTA, Ga. — With the softball season having come to a close for this year, the Alpharetta Raiders have a lot to be proud of.
The 10 Lady Raiders followed a grueling schedule for the past two months, spending a lot of their time after school devoted to softball. Practice was every day of the week after school for at least an hour since Aug. 1.
During this time, they experienced a lot of achievements on the field with every game. Some of those memorable moments include a second-place finish in the season opening tournament at Kell High School and considerable success in the region tournament.
They closed off the year with a loss in the Region 6-AAAAAA tournament in Fowler Park, Cumming, against North Forsyth and fell just short of qualifying for the Georgia state tournament this year, despite making it last year for the first time in school history for softball.
Individual players also gained regional recognition. Rachel Summerrow, who played for the team for the past two years, was crowned Most Outstanding Offensive Player by head coach Scott Cole and assistant coach Buddy Chumbler of the AHS softball team. She and teammate Lauren Luegers have qualified for selection into the 2012 Region 6-AAAAAA All-Regional Softball Team.
Although the softball season has ended for this year, the team has already started to prepare for next season with the remaining members of the team confident for the 2013 season.
