JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – First-graders at Dolvin Elementary School recently had the opportunity to apply some math understanding by working with pumpkins. Before diving inside the pumpkins, students estimated and measured height using non-standard units and made predictions about the amount of seeds. Even some of the smallest pumpkins had over 500 seeds. Classes came back together to discuss results and record the data on bar graphs.
