October 24, 2012 ROSWELL, Ga. – Centennial picked up a second straight victory over a Forsyth County opponent, defeating South Forsyth 22-10 at home last Friday night.
The Knights got another strong defensive effort, with quarterback Chase Rosenberg and wide receiver Christian Robinson sparking the team's offense.
Rosenberg completed 15 of 29 passes for 233 yards, both to Robinson, who had six receptions for 82 yards.
Robinson caught a 28-yard pass from Rosenberg to tie the game 7-7 in the first half. The War Eagles drove 93 yards on their first possession, but the Centennial defense held tough from that point, allowing just a field goal in the fourth quarter.
"After that series, our defense was lights out," Centennial coach Jeff Carlberg said.
The defensive line turned in another strong effort, he said.
Carlberg said the team's defensive effort was keyed by linebacker Andrew Estes, who had eight tackles and one sack and was part of the big play of the night for the Knights' defense.
He forced the South Forsyth quarterback into a hurried throw, which Kola Balogun intercepted and returned 65 yards for a touchdown in the final period.
The Knights had broken the halftime tie on a 16-yard touchdown reception by Robinson in the third period. Centennial went for two and was successful, taking a 15-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
"We were sporadic on offense," Carlberg said. "Offensively, we had a lot of good plays, but only two good drives. But it was enough to win."
Centennial is 2-2 in Region 6-AAAAAA and 2-5 overall after starting 0-5. If the Knights win at home Friday against North Forsyth (0-4, 3-4), they will have a chance to make the playoffs with a victory over rival Chattahoochee in the season finale.
"We control our destiny," Carlberg said.
The Centennial coach said part of the team's recent run of success stems from their off week, which came after the last of their five losses.
On Thursday of that week, Carlberg had the team play a pickup game, with the coaches also taking part.
"We played for an hour and we all had a ball," he said. "It brought some fun back into the deal, and I think it changed the mindset of the team."
