October 01, 2012 PLAINS, Ga. — A Cumming Elementary School fifth-grade student won third place in a postcard contest. Best of all, the student was able to receive his award from former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
An excited Daniel Cox, a fifth-grader at Cumming Elementary, traveled to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains, Ga. Sept. 15 to receive his award and medal presented by Jimmy Carter.
Cox's teacher, Tammy Waddell, had her class enter a postcard contest sponsored by the Jimmy Carter Historical Site. It was open to all K-12 students in the state.
There were about 8,000 entries. A first, second and third place recognition was awarded in each grade level.
