September 17, 2012 ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Alpharetta High School Band Director Michael Walsh announced that Tamara Dworetz is the new assistant band director at AHS.
Dworetz, who graduated from North Springs High School, is going to be a "tremendous help to the band program," said Walsh.
This will be Dworetz's first year as an assistant band director and she said she is looking forward to becoming a part of the AHS band family. Dworetz will serve the band program by assisting with all three concert ensembles and the Marching Raiders. She graduated cum laude from Indiana University's Jacobs School for Music with a dual bachelor's of music education degree in instrumental and string music education along with a minor in instrumental conducting.
As a trumpet player, Dworetz performed in Indiana University's wind ensemble, symphonic band (principal), chamber orchestra (principal), summer symphony, Marching Hundred and Big Red basketball band. Dworetz also worked with renowned musicians Phil Smith (New York Philharmonic) and Chris Martin (Chicago Symphony). In addition to her regular course of studies at IU, Dworetz served as assistant conductor and outreach director for the Musical Arts Youth Orchestra in Bloomington, Ind.
Dworetz, an Atlanta native, has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, the Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble and the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra.
