Stolen, wrecked car found at church

January 27, 2014
CUMMING, Ga. — A woman reported her car stolen, and deputies found it wrecked in the parking lot of a church, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

At about 10 a.m. Jan. 14, a woman in the 6000 block of Matt Highway told deputies her 2002 Ford Explorer was missing.

Soon after, deputies found a similar car in the parking lot of Zion Hill Baptist Church, which is about a half mile away from the home.

Deputies said the car's steering wheel was intact, but the driver's side was scratched and dented with mud impacted in all the seams. The left rear tire was flat.

The woman said she had parked her car in the driveway at about 5 p.m. Jan. 13, and when she awoke at about 9 a.m. that morning, it was gone.

She said she was letting a man live in her garage, who was "down and out."

In exchange for letting the man stay, he cleaned her home.

Deputies contacted the man, and he said, even though he was up all night cleaning, he did not hear anything suspicious.

The woman said she had both sets of her keys, and deputies saw no sign of forced entry in the home.
