Car set on fire in the woods in Forsyth

January 08, 2014
CUMMING, Ga. — A man and his friend found a car burning in the woods while they were out deer hunting, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

At about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 12, deputies were dispatched to an area just north of an abandoned home in the 7000 block of Mount Tabor Road when hunters reported a burning car.

One of the hunters told deputies they heard a loud explosion. The explosion was followed by people talking, car doors closing and then they heard what they thought was fire crackling.

When deputies arrived, the car was engulfed in flames. Deputies said the fire was so intense the windows, door and dashboard melted.

Deputies later identified the car as a Range Rover sport utility vehicle. Deputies said the license plate had no identifiable state markings as the fire burnt off all the paint. Deputies were also unable to find any VIN numbers.

The car was up the driveway of the abandoned home about 25 to 50 yards from the roadside but not visible from the roadway.

Deputies suspect this was arson. Deputies said the fire seems to have started inside the car by unknown means. The burn marks appear more intense on the passenger front side.
