Forsyth Driver flees, passenger bails

December 06, 2013
CUMMING, Ga. — Deputies chased a speeder who got away, but caught the passenger, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

At about 9:30 a.m. Nov. 28, deputies were on the lookout for a silver Hyundai.

Deputies saw the car speeding down Ga. 9 and followed it to Campground Road, where the car turned left.

Deputies activated their sirens to pull it over, but it continued to drive and turned onto Rogers Road.

The driver ran through stoplights and continued to elude deputies and speed.

In the 1000 block of Mountain Road by the city limits of Milton, deputies saw the car slow down.

Then, the passenger door opened, and a passenger jumped out of the car while the driver sped off. The passenger hit the ground, rolled and began to get up. He kept shouting, "I told him to stop."

Deputies searched the passenger, and then asked who was driving and why were they running.

The passenger said the driver did not have insurance and might have an outstanding warrant. He said he told the driver to stop several times, but he would not listen.

Milton Police arrived and said they were familiar with the driver, who used to live off Mountain Road.

They provided Forsyth deputies with his information, and he had a suspended license for child support obligations and a super speeder violation. The tag on the car he was driving was stolen off a Hummer in Cherokee County.

The mother of the driver's child arrived and said she had just spoken to him on the phone.

He called her again while she was at the scene, and deputies were able to talk to him.

Deputies said he admitted to driving the car and said he ran because he didn't have insurance.

Later, deputies released the passenger without any charges.

Deputies took out eight warrants for the driver – one count of felony fleeing and attempting to elude, seven counts of misdemeanor traffic offenses, three counts of misdemeanor acquiring license plate to conceal identity and three counts of misdemeanor theft of receiving stolen property.

Man confronts car thief

CUMMING, Ga. — A man awoke to the sound of his truck starting and ran outside to stop the theft, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

At about 1 a.m. Nov. 27, a man in the 6000 block of Crystal Cove Trail told deputies he and his wife were asleep when he heard his 2003 Dodge Durango start up in his front yard.

He said he ran outside as the thief tried to drive up the driveway, but watched the truck roll back into the yard.

The man said he opened the door and yelled at the man to get out of his truck.

He said he punched the thief several times in the face as he yelled back, "you got me."

The truck was flung into reverse and struck the side of the trailer the man was renting, which damaged the front bedroom portion.

The man said the thief jumped out of the truck and ran away behind the trailer.

The man said the suspect was about 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet tall and had bad acne.

Deputies searched the truck and found the suspect's green backpack, which had several cellphones, chargers, watches and a DVD player inside.
