FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — With the help of watchful residents, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office tracked down and arrested a man suspected of burglarizing six area businesses.

Jason David Farris, 29, was taken into custody Oct. 21 after deputies narrowed his whereabouts to an extended stay hotel in Sandy Springs.

Farris was charged with five counts of burglary and one count of theft, all felonies.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater said someone had been prying open the back doors of local gas stations and convenience stores and stealing petty cash in a 10-day period from late September to early October.

Rainwater said during one burglary at a gas station, the suspect stole lottery tickets and redeemed them at Publix, 580 Atlanta Road, before the tickets were reported stolen.

However, surveillance video captured the images of the suspect.

The sheriff's office posted the images on Facebook and soon Farris was identified.

"We started receiving calls, and, after a few calls with the same name, that's when we concentrated on Jason Farris," Rainwater said.

Farris's last known address was out of Lawrenceville, which Rainwater said turned out to be incorrect.

Rainwater said deputies later learned Farris had been staying in extended stays for one week at a time, then moved on to the next hotel.

As of Oct. 24, Farris remained booked in Forsyth County Detention Center without a posted bond.
