Forsyth County woman falls for 'mystery shopper' scam

June 03, 2013
CUMMING, Ga. — A woman was swindled in a mystery shopper scam and had her bank accounts wiped out, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

On May 8, a woman told deputies that jeffersonshoppers@gmail.com emailed her about being a mystery shopper. They sent her a cashier's check for $1,900 and told her to cash it at her bank.

She went to her bank and negotiated the check. She sent a Western Union money gram May 10 with the acquired money to an address in Minnesota.

The victim said the suspects put a stop payment on the check and this wiped out her bank account.
