Fake cop gets real jail time in Alpharetta

May 28, 2013
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – A Lawrenceville man was arrested May 12 after allegedly passing himself off as a police officer.

According to a witness, Robert Earl Campbell, 25, of Lawrenceville, walked into a Shell gas station on Old Milton Parkway just after midnight and smelled of alcohol. The clerk said Campbell said he was undercover working a drug case in the area and then he left the store.

Police arrived and found Campbell nearby. When questioned, he again said he was with Lawrenceville police and the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau working undercover. He said Alpharetta police were blowing his cover. A check with Lawrenceville police confirmed Campbell did not work there.

He was arrested and charged with possession of drug-related paraphernalia, public drunkenness, loitering and impersonating a police officer.
