Suspect on run after eluding police stop in Alpharetta

May 06, 2013
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – An Ellenwood man allegedly led police on a car chase April 12 that resulted in his escape – for now.

According to a police report, an officer on patrol noticed a GMC Suburban sport utility vehicle at the corner of Georgia Lane and North Point Parkway at 1:47 a.m. driving without its headlights on.

When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, it picked up speed and fled. The driver eventually pulled into the Hai Ku restaurant on Georgia Lane off North Point Parkway where he jumped out of the vehicle and ran into nearby woods where police lost track of him.

More officers arrived on scene and searched the woods. The suspect was found, but again escaped capture.

A search of the SUV turned up three fully loaded Glock magazines, bolt cutters, pain pills, a GPS device and other hand tools. Police also found a Georgia identification card for Ken Earnest Mitchell, 30, of Ellenwood. Police identified Mitchell from the ID card as the suspect found in the woods.

Running the SUV through state records turned up a DeKalb owner, who said she still had her vehicle in her possession.

Mitchell is wanted for obstruction, driving without headlights, fleeing police and driving with a suspended license.
