Scam artists pose as Microsoft reps in Forsyth

CUMMING, Ga. — A man and his son had their computers hacked and $360 stolen by a scammer claiming to be with Microsoft, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

The man told deputies April 22 someone hacked into his computer sometime in March and posed as Microsoft representatives. The rep wanted to report problems with the man's computer.

The man said the company threatened to report illegal hacking activity, so he purchased a service contract for $89.

The man said the company ended up charging him $360 for the services.

The victim contacted Microsoft officials, who said they were not involved.
