Fraud call in Johns Creek turns out to be fraud

April 17, 2013
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – A Merganser Lane man was nearly the victim of a fraud scheme April 1 after receiving a strange phone call.

The victim told police he received a call from a man calling himself Michael Scott, who claimed to be a supervisor with American Express.

"Scott" informed the victim there was a suspicious charge for $925 on his credit card and Scott wanted to verify it was correct. The victim gave Scott the last four digits of his Social Security number and his American Express card number.

After ringing off with Scott, the victim called American Express who said they had no employee named Michael Scott and there were no suspicious credit charges on his account.
