February 13, 2013 ALPHARETTA, Ga. – In what seems to be a recurring occurrence at the Alpharetta Courthouse, a man was arrested Jan. 30 for driving away from court after having his license suspended.
Joseph Lenard Smith, 25, of Quay Court, Alpharetta, was in court for two charges of driving on a suspended license. Both of Smith's cases were deferred until April to allow him to get his license reinstated.
The judge told Smith he was not to drive when leaving the court, because he still had no license. According to the police report, Smith did just that, with the reporting officer watching him the whole time.
Smith was arrested and charged with contempt of court and driving with a suspended license (third count) and taken into custody.
