IRS check cashed without permission in Cumming

January 22, 2013
CUMMING, Ga. — Someone cashed a $12,364 tax return check that didn't belong to him, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

A woman in the 6300 block of Tamarack Trial told deputies Jan. 8 someone cashed her and her ex-husband's 2010 tax return check without their knowledge or permission.

The victim said the taxes were filed in late September 2012. She decided to track down the check's location through the Internal Revenue Service. That's when she discovered it had already been cashed.

The IRS showed the check had two fingerprints on it and the signatures on the check didn't match the victim's.
