Vandals poison trees in Cumming

January 15, 2013
CUMMING, Ga. — Vandals set out to kill pine trees in the Lighthouse Harbour neighborhood, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.

At 12 p.m. Dec. 8, a couple in the Lighthouse Harbour subdivision discovered white pellets on pine saplings they had planted in the neighborhood the week before.

The deputy, at the time, was unable to decipher if the white pellets were fertilizer or poison.

The couple then sent a sample of the pellets to the University of Georgia to be analyzed.

In a Jan. 4 update, the deputy said the couple received a letter from the university stating the pellets were Spike 20, a commercial chemical used to kill pine trees.
