This man allegedly stole a rare coin.
December 19, 2012ROSWELL, Ga. — A man stole a rare coin Dec. 10 from a Roswell jeweler.
According to police, a tall man dressed in a gray sweater and blue jeans, bald with a shaved head and glasses, walked into Antwerp Diamonds on Holcomb Bridge Road at around 12:30 p.m. and asked to see their rare coins.
"An employee showed the suspect a few coins, but he then asked to see higher valued coins," said Lisa Holland, a Roswell Police spokeswoman.
The employee showed the man an 1885 Carson City Morgan silver dollar, valued at $650. It has a Lady Liberty on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse side.
"It's a valuable coin," Holland said.
The suspect asked to see other coins and, while the employee was distracted, snatched the silver dollar from the counter and ran out the door.
"We would appreciate any help from the public helping identify the suspect," she said.
Those with information are encouraged to call Detective Dana DeWeese at 770-640-4279.
