ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Someone has been stealing white newspaper boxes from around town and the owner wants them back.
Publisher Ray Appen has offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is stealing the Revue & News newspaper boxes.
"Someone must have noticed white newspaper boxes in someone's backyard, garage, pickup or in the lot or ditch next door," Appen said. "They are worth $2,000 in cash – to you – no questions asked. All it takes is picking up the phone and calling me."
Most of the boxes have been located near Main Street (Ga. 9) in Alpharetta. The most recent theft was the newspaper box at the Corner Deli and Canton Street and also one on Ga. 9 in Roswell in front of Cici's Pizza.
"In the over 20 years we have had the papers, we usually will have one or two stolen each year. While the box circulation is a minimal component of our footprint, we see it as a community service. Those boxes make our newspapers available to everyone, and I just can't tolerate some fool taking them from our readers," Appen said. "Plus, stealing those newspaper boxes is a felony. I can't imagine anyone out there stupid enough to risk jail for a tin box and some quarters."
