November 20, 2012 MILTON, Ga. — Seven girls on the Milton High School varsity lacrosse team signed Nov. 14 with Division I colleges to play at the university level. This is the most players from any graduating class in the state or any of the Southern states to sign with D-1 schools, said their coach, Tim Godby.
Milton has won seven of the last eight state championships since the sport was officially sanctioned by the GHSA in 2005.
"We're fortunate to have had some success," Godby said. "Our girls want to work hard to be a part of that success."
The players began attending recruiting tournaments in the summertime, Godby said, so the girls could get exposure to college coaches. He credits that with helping place so many players.
"The reputation of our program is the biggest reason," he said. "College coaches know if a kid comes out of the Milton program, they're probably a good, talented player."

| | | Lacrosse as a sport has slowly gained traction in Southern states, already being popular in the North. More and more youths are joining the ranks of both boys' and girls' teams.
"The number of schools playing has more than doubled in the past nine years since I've started," Godby said.
The feeder program for Milton's lacrosse is so strong, Godby said the team does not need players from outside the North Fulton area all their players come directly from the feeder teams.
Along with the girls' lacrosse players, other Milton students signed with colleges. Madison Horton received a swimming scholarship with Michigan. Nick Basile signed with Highpoint for lacrosse. Jane Sutcliff signed with UGA for equestrian. Philip Anderson signed with Gardner-Webb for wrestling. Sean Brophy signed with Georgia College and State University for baseball. Matt Phillips signed with Georgia Tech for baseball. Nick Bradshaw signed with William and Mary for baseball, and Payton Smith signed with Appalachian State University for baseball.
