Three cars entered at Greenway in Forsyth County

Sheriff's office warns people to lock cars, keep valuables out of sight

November 13, 2012
CUMMING, Ga. — Several cars were broken into at the Bethelview and McFarland road parking lots of the Greenway, prompting the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office to urge caution and common sense to park goers.

Two women's cars were entered about the same time at the Bethelview Trailhead for the Greenway, according to separate incident reports.

A woman told deputies between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. Nov. 2, someone entered her 2006 Ford Expedition and took her wallet. The wallet contained her driver's license, credit card and $80.

The victim said she thought she locked the sport utility vehicle, but couldn't be sure because she was distracted by her two dogs.

A purse was taken from another woman's 2005 Ford Expedition. The victim said she locked her doors, but realized her back window was open wide enough someone could reach inside.

The purse and its contents were valued at $300.

At about 10 a.m. Nov. 3, a Creek Club Drive couple approached a deputy patrolling the area to report someone had broken into their SUV at the McFarland Greenway parking lot.

The couple's 2004 Nissan Armada's front passenger-side window was shattered, but nothing was missing. The damage to the window is estimated at $200.

Sgt. Allan Frampton of the sheriff's Crime prevention unit advised residents to lock car doors and put valuables in the trunk or out of sight.

"These types of thefts, even if windows are broken in to gain entry, happen very fast and are very difficult to stop," Frampton said. "The easiest way to prevent these incidents is by putting valuables in the trunk outside of view."

Frampton also recommends being observant of people and surroundings when at the Greenway and local parks.

"Be very observant of any suspicious activity, such as people that are watching cars and people more than the ballgames," he said.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call 911 immediately. For non-emergencies, call 770-781-3087.
