ROSWELL, Ga. — Mountain Park is a quiet little town nestled between Roswell and Cobb County whose residents have a penchant for individualism and a reputation of nonconformity from the 1970s.

But it is also a town where neighbors take notice of what goes on around their street, something two young suspected drug dealers did not take into account.

Roswell police nabbed two suspects Oct. 3, finding thousands of dollars and large amounts of drugs in their Mountain Park home.

Police received a tip of suspicious activity at a home on East Lake Drive in Mountain Park that broke the case. The caller said there were always people coming and going from the home, often staying just a few minutes at a time.

"A neighbor saw a lot of suspicious activity of people coming and going," said Lisa Holland, spokeswoman for the Roswell Police Department. "They would come in for a few minutes and then leave. A lot. So we sent an officer out for a 'knock and talk.'"

A knock and talk is when an officer simply goes to the suspected residence and talks with the suspects.

When the officer knocked at the suspect home, two young men, ages 17 and 18, came to the door. They initially denied having any drugs in the home, but the reporting officer noted the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside.

"She was overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana," Holland said.

The young men allegedly admitted to having some pot when the officer informed them of this smell and, letting the officer inside, showed her a drawer with several plastic baggies filled with pot as well as a large amount of cash.

More police arrived and searched the home. The report says $1,892 was in plain sight on a couch as well as a box filled with plastic zip-lock baggies imprinted with drug logos. There were also two marijuana pipes and several knives.

Hidden under the couch, police said they found a duffel bag containing a gallon-sized zip-lock bag filled to the brim with marijuana buds and nearly $1,000 in cash. They also found another baggie with 100 Xanax pills and two electronic scales.

Continuing the search, two watertight boxes were also found in the home and filled to capacity with hashish. A backpack in the kitchen had still more cash — $2,000. In all some $5,000 was confiscated at the house.

"[All the drugs were] bundled up to sell. They didn't live in the house very long, and it didn't take them long to set up their operation," Holland said.

"Mountain Park is really like a neighborhood. When something like this comes into their neighborhood, they are going to report it."

Roswell handles policing for the city of Mountain Park.

A 17-year-old boy and Riley Matthew Bloomer, 18, of East Lake Drive, were arrested for possession with intent to distribute, possession of a knife during a Crime and possession of schedule IV drugs with the intent to distribute. Bloomer was released from Fulton County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Ignorant propaganda.. Police had no warrant whatsoever, waste of tax money, due to benighted police work and improper protocol, there was signature bond not $50,000.

The headline says "Roswell" but this occurred in Mountain Park, not Roswell. Might be worth updating the headline.

Mountain Park is a separate city from Roswell, complete with its own Mayor and City Council. It is a beautiful town, you feel like you're in a mountain retreat if you drive through it. Congratulations to the citizens that detected the activity!

Mountain Park outsources policing to Roswell which is why Roswell Police would have paid the visit.
