October 09, 2012 FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A man claimed to be an employee of Sawnee Electric Membership Corp. when he told a victim in the 6400 block of Quail Trail he needed to be paid to keep the lights on, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff's incident report.
On Aug. 2, the victim said he received a phone call from the alleged power company employee stating he owed $585 on his electric bill because his payments dating back to March 2012 were not good.
The caller told the victim he could pay $285 that day to keep his power from being turned off.
The man paid the $285 through "MoneyPak" and then another $300 on Aug. 15.
On Sept. 28, the victim was called again from the same scammer with a new bill — $162. The victim decided to go to Sawnee EMC to resolve the payment problem. Power company staff told him his payments were all up to date and that he had been scammed.
Deputies are following up on a couple of leads.
