July 23, 2012 MILTON, Ga. - Three Walmart employees were arrested July 8 after allegedly stealing more than $10,000 worth of goods over several days. One of the suspects is a store loss prevention officer, whose task is to prevent such incidents happening.
Store employees said they first began suspecting loss prevention officer Derrick Gibson, 39, of Fairview Bluff, Alpharetta, of time card fraud. While reviewing CCTV footage, they reportedly saw Gibson take deli food and soda from a break room without paying for them.
They allege they saw him make off with more valuable items – TVs, video games, cell phones and several computers. In total he is accused of stealing almost $3,500 worth of goods.
While Gibson was under surveillance, two other employees were spotted allegedly stealing goods. On June 26 Randall Eugene Manns, 48, of Addison Lane, Johns Creek, was seen taking a laptop computer from a display case and leave the store. Two days later, he stole two web cameras. Chopra is accused of taking almost $6,000 in goods.
A third employee, Neil Chopra, 31, of Hannafod Drive in Roswell, was seen on footage on June 22, 23, 29 and July 1 taking a television and several computers and accessories. Chopra was also seen pretending to scan and then bag up items for Gibson.
When approached with the video evidence, Gibson and Chopra admitted to the thefts, store employees told police. Chopra admitted to paying off Gibson to stay out of trouble, the police report said.
Gibson told police he committed the crimes in order to sell the goods to third parties.
