ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office arrested a 34-year-old Johns Creek man and charged him with trying to ignite a homemade bomb at a Mercedes-Benz car dealership.

Quinton Gregory Smith, 34, of Sandwedge Lane in Johns Creek was arrested by the warrant and fugitive unit and charged with possession of an explosive device and criminal damage to property in the second degree. Smith, a vendor for RBM Mercedes of Atlanta-North, 345 McFarland Parkway, worked on the dealership lot washing cars and moving cars on the lot for RBM Mercedes.

On Tuesday, July 17, the sheriff's office responded to a call from RBM Mercedes after employees arrived at work and found damage to a vehicle and damage to an area of asphalt near the vehicle. Investigators found the damage was caused by a homemade bomb thrown at a car in the early morning hours.

"This device was constructed to detonate on impact," said Sheriff Ted Paxton.

Smith was being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.
