February 19, 2014CUMMING, Ga. — After several years of perfecting their sound, local band Dot22 is excited to announce the release of their first extended play entitled "Bottle Rocket Romance."
On Feb. 22, the pop rock and puck band will host its release party show at a new Cumming venue, His Rock Music, 145 Enterprise Drive.
Alex Crain, vocals and guitar, Aaron Sanders, drums, and Vivian Zingleman, bass, formed the band in the summer of 2011 while attending South Forsyth High School.
They have been collaborating ever since to write the six original songs for the EP, which Sanders said were inspired by relationships and the hardships that comes with them.
"What we are trying to do with the album and what it means are different in themselves," Crain said. "We just want people to have something that they can enjoy listening to."
The band turned to Spotlight Sound Studio in Alpharetta to record their work, and they were pleased with how the engineers were able to capture their sound. Even though their sound has changed, the band said they are most similar to bands like Jimmy Eat World and Blink 182.
"We have never been into that persecution of music based on genre," Zingleman said. "We have always just played what we found to be compelling and interesting."
Zingleman said the band has not focused on the superficial attempts to gain a fan base, like engaging in heavy social media promotion. Rather, they have focused on the quality of the music produced.
Although Crain wrote many of the lyrics, he said the songs are composed with everyone's input and ideas.
Sanders said the three practice about twice a week while trying to balance the college life and work, but look forward to the summer when they can expand their touring radius.
The band has also played at other venues such as the Masquerade in Atlanta, Swayze's in Marrietta and Schroeder's New Deli in Rome.
