October 29, 2013FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Parents are being asked to attend a drug summit Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The "Stop Your Kids Before Drugs Stop Them" event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Lanier Conference Center, 3410 Ronald Reagan Boulevard, bringing county leaders together with experts to address drugs, prevention and raise awareness.
All are welcome to the free event that will feature former Atlanta Braves All-Star pitcher John Smoltz as the featured speaker, a panel of experts that parents can ask questions of and real stories from parents who are dealing with children addicted to drugs.
Also on hand to discuss parents growing concerns of drug and alcohol abuse among teens: sheriff deputies, juvenile justice officials and intervention specialists.
"We started talking about how many kids were on drugs and parents who didn't have a clue and didn't know which way to go," said Cindy Jones Mills, a Forsyth County Commissioner, who is helping to organize the event. "We want to better educate the public and parents in particular, and we can help stop it and drive it out of our community."
