Fire Prevention Week raises awareness in Forsyth County

October 16, 2013
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — During the week of Oct. 6, agent Scott Hansard of Hansard Insurance Agency partnered with the Georgia Arson Control Board to remind citizens of Forsyth County about Fire Prevention Week.

The week raised awareness of the danger of structure fires and encouraged community members to remember the important preventative steps they can take.

Hansard's partnership focused on preventing the leading causes of home fires: cooking, heating and electrical equipment, as well as candles and smoking materials.

"A few fire safety tips can go a long way in protecting your family," Hansard said.

He offered tips that include making sure that you have a working smoke detector with fresh batteries, staying in the kitchen while frying, grilling or broiling food and replacing or repairing damaged or loose electrical cords.

The partnership also focuses on fighting arson. By reporting potential arson, you can help stop fires before they start.

If you have information leading to an arrest and conviction of an arsonist, call the arson hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
