CUMMING, Ga. — Students from kindergarten through fifth grade participated in the annual summer reading camps in June and July sponsored by Mentor Me North Georgia.
This year's summer camp was funded by United Way of Forsyth County and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Forsyth.
Books were donated by Literacy Forsyth.
Sylvia Cardona, executive director of Mentor Me, said that the program assists students and teaches them to love reading and meet new people.
"The camps provide a summer learning opportunity for children," Cardona said. "The emphasis is on reading and writing skills, which they might not use during the summer months. Another focus of the camps was making new and diverse friends.
"This year all the campers enjoyed writing their own creative stories."
