CUMMING, Ga. — Mentor Me North Georgia held a book fair June 1 at Barnes and Noble at the Collection Forsyth. Mentor Me is a nonprofit organization that provides mentoring relationships between adult volunteers and children.

Sylvia Cardona, executive director of Mentor Me, said she was thrilled to hold the book fair.

"It was another way for our community to learn about Mentor Me and how mentoring can make such a difference in the life of a child," Cardona said. "Mentoring contributes to brighter futures for children and can literally change their lives."

Mentor Me matches adult volunteers with children ages 6 17, who need and want a mentor. Men are matched with boys, and women are matched with girls.

Shoppers participated by buying books the program needs for their summer reading camps. Additionally, a portion of purchases made online and in-store supported Mentor Me as well.

"The book fair was fun, but ultimately, it supports Forsyth kids who need mentors and friends," Cardona said.

The book fair also included a taekwondo demonstration, face painting and balloon making. Local author Christine Roberts, who is also a mentor, signed copies of her book "Inspirational Mind Food."
