MARIETTA, Ga. — Boy Scouts from Troop 1099 out of Lanier United Methodist Church in Cumming participated in the annual Memorial Day flag placement event at Marietta National Cemetery last month.
More than 18,000 flags were placed on the graves of soldiers and their spouses who are buried there. Troop 1099 has been participating for several years at this event. This year, they placed several hundred flags and were one of the last troops to leave the cemetery.
The Scouts said they were honored to learn about the 10,312 Union soldiers buried there through the stories of historian Brad Quinlin.
