JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Heels and evening gowns at the ready, Miss Georgia USA takes Vegas May 29 where she will compete for her chance at the crown and title of Miss USA.

Johns Creek resident Brittany Sharp, 22, a broadcast major from the University of Georgia, will travel to the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas where she will perform and be judged in three categories: interview, evening gown and bathing suit.

"I am really excited," Sharp said. "I'm really anxious to get out there. I think all of my hard work is finally going to pay off."

Sharp began her pageant career when she was 14 and signed with a modeling agency. Her agent encouraged her to enter the Miss Georgia Teen USA pageant.

"She thought it would get me some good experience as far as being comfortable on stage, and it would better my interview skills," Sharp said. "So I entered and, low and behold, with a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck I won."

Sharp continued on to the Miss Teen USA pageant in Palm Springs, Calif., when she was 15 to compete. She placed fourth runner up.

"That was just an amazing experience. It taught me so many great things and a lot of great doors opened in result of that," Sharp said. "The moment that I left Palm Springs, I knew that one day when I was old enough and ready, I would want to compete on the Miss USA stage."

With that goal in mind, Sharp entered the Miss Georgia USA pageant when she reached the correct age. On her third attempt, she was crowned.

"It was amazing. I feel like I almost went blank because it just seemed so surreal," Sharp said. "I think, in hindsight, the timing was right for me to win this year. I was in my last year at the University of Georgia and I just think that I have fully grown into my womanhood."

Sharp's mother, Sandy Lincoln, is a pageant winner herself and has been through everything with Sharp. Lincoln was named Mrs. Georgia United States about two months after Sharp won Miss Georgia Teen USA, making the pair one of only two mother-daughter title holders in the United States.

"We were really new to pageantry, didn't grow up doing pageants and weren't the typical pageant girls so it was just kind of fun," Lincoln said. "We just laughed like what did we just do?"

Lincoln said Sharp has a really great chance of winning the Miss USA pageant because of her exposure in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

There has never been a Miss USA winner from Georgia. The closest Georgia has ever gotten was second runner up.

"We are so excited," Lincoln said. "It has been a dream and goal. We have been working to achieve this since she was a teen title holder at 14."

Sharp will stay busy in Las Vegas with photo shoots and interviews for about three weeks prior to the telecast of the pageant on NBC.

If she is named Miss USA, Sharp will continue on to Donald Trump's Miss Universe pageant.
