CUMMING, Ga. — On May 3, the Reid Barn, 6844 Majors Road, became a time machine of sorts, bringing attendees "Back to Woodstock."

The event brought hundreds together in support of Forsyth County Family Haven.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will serve families and victims of domestic violence.

This is the third year that the event has been held in the community. Family Haven has helped hundreds of thousands of victims of domestic violence since the facility opened in 1989.

Millie Irizarry, Family Haven's executive director, said the past board president, Linda Whittle, started the party at her house years ago. Now, Family Haven uses the celebration as an opportunity to raise funds.

The fundraiser has continued to blossom and so have the needs of Family Haven in the community.

"This year, the economy is still a factor. Unemployment is another hardship, and the biggest need is transportation," Irizarry said. "Domestic violence continues to prevail. Over a thousand families were helped last year, and they have no place to go."

Irizarry, who started working with Family Haven in 1999, said funds raised will help the family program services.

Irizarry stresses that the shelter's needs include an additional storage unit, a new playground set and a 32 inch flat screen TV for one of the transitional units.

"Knowing that you helped someone change their life is a success story," Irizarry said.
